Throughout the world. Higher Education Institutions (HEls) function in a dynamic environment since higher learning and research now act as essential components of cultural, socio-economic and environmentally sustainable development of individuals, communities and nations. Obviously the role leaders in HEI and their style of functioning cannot be taken for granted. The aim of the study was to examine the styles of leadership - Participative, Laissez-Faire, Authoritative and Situational - found in the HEI in Andhra Pradesh. Voluminous literature is available about the concept of organization and leadership since the early twentieth century but there is very little information about this in the Indian context. The respondents of this study were the principals and teaching staff of 26 colleges affiliated to Andhra University. The findings of the study show that the monthly salaries of the respondents do have positive impact on styles of leadership exercised by the leaders as perceived by the respondents. The statistical tools used for this study were chi-square and percentage analysis.-
