The data on total proteins, free amino acids, ammonia, urea and glutamine in gill and brain of Cyprinus carpio at 7th and 15th days of exposure to sub lethal concentration of acidic media(PHS.O) besides controls, are presented in Tables 1 and 2. The levels of total proteins and ammonia decreased at day 7 and 15 in the gill and brain of experimental fish with a corresponding increase in the levels of free amino acids, urea and glutamine of experimental fish over control. In between the days the degree of intensity was more at day 15 than at day7. But no significant difference was observed in the levels of free amino acids and urea of gill at day 7. Moreover, in both the tissues the impact was more in gill than the brain of experimental fish. It indicates that the degradation of protein suggests increased proteolytic activity which in turn leads to elevation of free amino acids level by the possible utilization of the products of their degradation for metabolic purposes.-
