The SHG-Bank Linkage Programme and Financial Inclusion in India- a Review of the Recent Trend

Abstract

Broad based and Inclusive economic development of the country requires, as a prerequisite, broad based and inclusive financial development in the country. Inclusive banking expansion in a country assumes importance in this context since banks enjoy a unique position among financial institutions. The SHG-Bank Linkage programme and the provision of micro-credit through the SHGs in India is an attempt at banking inclusion and inclusive development in the country.
