Abstract: People migrate in search of better opportunities to earn a livelihood and for a better socioeconomic environment. It is important to know the reasons for which the individuals migrate and the factors related to the same so as to know about the kind of environment they lived in before migration and also, their dire need to migrate. The present study concentrates on detailed factors responsible for migration, costs involved and problems faced by migrant labourers working in the industries of Ludhiana city. Economic factors were identified as the most common factors responsible for migration. Relatives were the most common source through whom Ludhiana city was selected as the destination place for migration. The majority of the industrial migrant labourers incurred a cost up-to ₹ 400 for traveling to Ludhiana city and often faced problems while travelling to the city.
