Managing Libraries Rare Material: a Managerial Approach

Abstract

Libraries are preserving the Cultural heritage since centuries. The task of information collection, management, dissemination and preservation is very difficult task indeed. But the Libraries are /~lowing various scientific methods to manage the rare materials and manuscripts present in their collection. The paper deals with preservation and conservation of library rare materials. The ·term preservation and conservation are explained in the paper. The type of conservation i.e. preventive Vs curative conservation is explained with suitable examples. The deterioration and causes of deterioration is also highlighted. Various measures for minimizing the effect of deterioration is also explained. The various methods of conservation, significance, primary activities of conservation, and components of conservation are also elaborated in the paper. The paper gives a solution that how rare material and manuscripts can be well managed in the library. The measures for minimizing the risks in the library are also given at the last.
