dc.description.abstractThis study has been conducted to identify the most profitable sector of the Indian banking industry using some important ratios. For this purpose, 27, 22 and 32 banks falling in public, private and foreign sector, respectively have been covered for the examination of their data for the period 2001-02 to 2012-13. table banks in the industry. Punjab National Bank in public sector, HDFC Bank in private sector and AB Bank in foreign sector were found to be the most profitable banks. Those identified as least profitable are IDBI Bank Ltd. in public sector, Development Credit Bank in private sector and First Rand Bank in foreign sector.-
