Effectiveness of Inductive , Deductive and Analytical Methods in Mathematics

Abstract

Teaching a subject like mathematics needs special teaching methods. Generally teachers of mathematics use three important teaching methods i. e. Inductive, Deductive and Analytical. Often it is observed that students of this subject become mechanical in playing with numbers only and lack understanding in depth. Therefore there is a need to study the effectiveness of the teaching methods in mathematics. This study is based on facts collected from a Navodaya Vidyalaya, Amravati. The main aim of this study is to bring out the relative effectiveness of Inductive, Deductive and Analytical methods of teaching in solving Linear Equations in two variables. Our study reveals that there is a significant difference between Inductive, Deductive and Analytical methods on the achievement of students in solving Linear Equations. Of these methods, Inductive and Deductive are more effective than the Analytical Method.
