dc.description.abstract | The foundation of sustainable development is based on three fundamental aspects: social, economic and environmental. The United Nations General Assembly established the Brundtland Commission in 1983 to promote Sustainable Development. According to this commission, sustainability means "providing for present needs without undermining future generations' ability to provide for their own needs." As commercial entities, companies are obliged to prioritize the equilibrium among economic, social and ecological factors. A means of ensuring this balance is by participating in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Principally, CSR endeavours to enhance human well-being as societal constituents who can address current issues while appreciating and preserving their surroundings.
