Abstract: In this chapter, we probe the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to enhance and optimize additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing. The focus is on how AI contributes to data-driven insights across the entire manufacturing process, spanning from refining designs to anticipating maintenance needs. Specifically, AI plays a pivotal role in generative design methods, automating the generation of intricate product geometries. It aids in material selection by forecasting behaviour and performance. Furthermore, AI scrutinizes process parameters such as temperature and speed, minimizing defects and downtime through predictive analytics. The synergy of AI and additive manufacturing brings about heightened efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability. Nevertheless, harnessing this potential requires overcoming challenges related to data complexity. In essence, this fusion signifies a transformative shift in industrial production, unlocking possibilities for mass customization and swift iterations, particularly in sectors like aerospace and healthcare. The chapter underscores the profound impact of AI on the landscape of additive manufacturing. © 2024 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
