dc.description.abstract | Self sufficiency of women as transition in career of women is a debatable topic. During the post-Vedic and epic ages the status of women were challenged from various spheres. From early twentieth century, their status changed gradually. After getting Independence, our Constitution makers strongly demanded equal social position of women with men and enshrined with the basic rule that there shoul.d not be inequality. But surprisingly, inequality was persistent in the society. Later on, with the changing scenario both the society and the government started realizing the importance of women, with the government making various laws to make women self sufficient. From time immemoria~ women have always supported men and the society for achieving all around development and progress in every vital and most significant sphere of the domestic and social life and slowly in the occupational and professional domain. As India is one of the major and fast growing economies of the worl.d, the initiative for facilitating the lawful entry of women to the Board of directors is surely a bright and prudent decision for enhancement of the cherished contributions of women in the economic progress and growth of the country. The Company Act, 2013, after amendment, lays down under Section 149 (1) provides for appointment of the women director as an effort for making women self sufficient in India. Thus, this paper discusses about:- i) the legislati.on on women director adopted by our country, ii) women representation on boards in India after the Act in 2013 and comparing it with the situation before 2013, iii) global comparison after legislation in the respective countries. The data are provided through various charts and tables. Finally, the curtains are drawn in this paper with some suggestion to make women more self sufficient. | en_US |
