In this work, novel surface engineered tools were prepared by carrying out micro blasting at optimized pressure before and after coating deposition. The process resulted in enhancement of the coating properties in terms of morphology, hardness, and behaviour in comparison to the as deposited tools. The pre-treatment helped in better anchoring of the substrate and the coating while the post-treatment resulted in improved hardness owing to induced compressive residual stresses. Both the pre-treatment as well as the post-treatment was carried out on the same tool to achieve its benign effects.en_US
