Abstract: The increased use of the internet all over the world has witnessed the emerging services of electronic payment systems. The use of portable electronic gadgets with high-speed internet and mobile networking mechanisms have offered the user to access and perform a financial transaction. The technological advancement in wireless technology has enabled the mobile devices as the prime component in a digital economy where the user can execute all the transactions. However, the attackers are finding the various ways to identify those transaction details and is leading to security concern for both the mobile application developers and also the users of it. Thus, this paper considers all the security concerns of mobile payment systems which fails to offer secure customer verification during the transaction. This paper introduces a hardware-based bidirectional secure payment system by using a biometric authentication mechanism at both the ends of the seller and buyer. This system eliminates the physical requirement of cash for all the transactions and resolves the identity needs during each transaction. The outcomes suggest that the system fulfills all the secure payment system and it takes approximately less than 30 s of time to complete the entire process of the transaction. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
