Abstract: Increasing in global warming has led many countries around the world to set policies and regulations to mitigate climate change. 60% of the oil consumed worldwide comes from the transportation sector. Therefore, the transport sector is highly dependent on crude oil and in fact, it is the largest consumption of energy in the world. Also, it contributes to carbon emissions polluting the environment and creating health hazards. In the transportation sector, governments are introducing market - pull and technology-pushstrategies to have car manufacturers develop eco-friendlier vehicles as one of the sustainable eco-innovation initiatives. The main purpose of promoting sustainable eco-friendly vehicles is to reduce oil consumption, air pollution and to pioneer in adoption of new technologies. Hence, car manufacturers are producing alternate fuel vehicles in response to the regulations. The electrification through the diffusion of Electric Vehicles, collaborating with the generation of cleaner electricity is regarded as a promising pathway to mitigate air pollution from on-road vehicles and energy dependency. The Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI) is a multi-government policy forum founded in 2009 under the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) which is dedicated to accelerating EVs adoption among consumers worldwide. Hence, Sustainable transportation goals have become a priority to mitigate climate change. Electric Vehicles have the ability to reduce the emissions generated by the transportation sector to achieve sustainable transportation goals. Hence the shifts towards Electric Vehicles are a necessity. A midst, this background, there is an urgent need to address environmental sustainability issues caused by ever growing transportation sector. The reintroduction of Electric vehicles has come up with lots of challenges. Hence, the study is about examining the technical factors (Operational factors) influencing the adoption of Electric vehicles (cars) in the Indian context and its impact on Environmental sustainability.
