Abstract: | A review of structural control focused on controllers is presented here. Several essential considerations must be addressed while designing a controller for the semi-active control (SAC) scheme. Some of these depend on the structure modeling performance in an uncertain and noisy environment, stability, feedback planning (centralized/decentralized), and its inherent non-linearities. A summary of passive, active, and SAC with an emphasis on control algorithms used in these is provided. Variations of the control weighting matrix "R" in the conventional linear quadratic Regulator/ linear quadratic Gaussian (LQR/LQG) controller utilizing the fast Fourier transform approach and its impact on structural responses are illustrated. To facilitate the research in this field, a comparative analysis of the performance of the most popular controllers on a mathematical model of a three-story structure equipped with a magnetorheological damper (MRD) is presented. |
