Abstract: | Elastomers are widely used for the manufacturing of gasket seals, adhesives, and composites due to their flexibility, high strength, high elongation at break, and hydrophobicity. In this chapter, the recent developments in elastomers have been reviewed. It is worth mentioning that the properties of the elastomers can be improved either by blending or with the incorporation of nanofillers. Many studies reported the incorporation of nanofillers in elastomer blends. The properties of the elastomeric composites and blends depend on many parameters such as cross-linking, compatibility between the blend components, filler dispersion, filler polymer interaction, etc. In the last few years, several smart elastomers have been developed for additive manufacturing, smart self-healing, shape memory, and sensor applications. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
