Abstract: In the present study, a critical review of the adhesion behavior of plasma sprayed coatings is discussed. A study revealed that substrate preparation, coating technique, surface roughness, solidification mechanism, coating thickness, plasma temperature, the coefficient of thermal expansion, of the top coat and bond coat have a significant influence on the adhesion strength. A great deal of discussion is made on the mechanical strength of the plasma sprayed coatings. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
