The growth story of indian tea indicates heavy investments_ in tea gerders and tea processing units, continuous innovation, augmented product mix and strategic market expansion. The main tea -growing regions are located in North East India (including Assam) and in north Bengal (Darjee ling district and the Dooars region). Tea is also grown on a large scale in the Nilgiris Hills in South India. The bulk of the tea so produced is consumed locally, India being the world's largest consumer of tea.-
