Abstract: | Effect of strain-rate on mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy have been explored through nanoindentation. Berkovichindenter has been used to indent on the surface of test sampleat different strain rates. Significant strain-rate hardening has been found consistently from surface to subsurface (a few nanometres deep into the bulk) of the test sample. However, strain-rate shows almost a slight effect on the elastic moduli of the alloy. The elastic modulus and hardness increased with the indentation depth due to inhomogeneous distributions of the crystalline morphology along the indentation. |
