dc.description.abstractThe paper examine human development comparison between China and India, it is also explain pe,formance of HD! and its indicators, whether the convergence or divergence between them. China has consistently grown much faster than India both in terms of economic growth as well as human development for the past 30 years and it will probably continue. to grow faster than India for a few more years. However, India needs to invest much more 011 social sector expenditure such as health and education, especially adult literacy to take advantage of its large labour force and leapfrog into the 2 f 1 centwy to become a dominant economic power in South Asia. This paper is organized into the following sections. Section II provides some recent work on issues related to the comparative development of both countries. We review the empirical literature on human development and its indicators. In section III discusses on human development indices of both the countries. Section IV compares the progress made by India and China in terms of HD! and looks at some important indicators of development for the two countries and in the final section seeks to draw some co11clusions and spell out the policy implication.-
