Abstract: The diversity of various types of plankton like phytoplankton and zooplankton were studied for river Tapti near Burhanpur in M.P. The plankton was collected by standard plan/...'ton net from three different sites of River Tapli. The phytoplankton were represented by Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophycean and Euglenophycin, out of which genetic diversity of Bacillariophyceae was more. The zooplankton were identified in various Phyla like Protozoa, Helminthes, Rotiferal, Annelida, Arthropoda etc. The diversity of Arthropods was highest. The percentage composition of various groups was calculated for the samples taken from different sites. The composition of p lank ton as percentage representation was correlated for different sites with sites characteristics. Based on different physic-chemical and biological parameters, the status of River Tapti is eutrophic in nature and during period under study 12 fish species, 42 phytoplankton’s (15 Bacillariophyceae. 18 Chlorophyceae, 09 cyanophycean) and 32 Zooplanktons (10 Rotifera, 03 Cn1stacea, 11 Protozoa, 06 Copepod, 02 Ostracoda) Genera have been recorded.
