Abstract: The focus of this paper is on the impact and relevance of mobile phone technology for promoting socioeconomic development in urban, rural and tribal society. It is in this context that the study was undertaken on a small sample size of 900 subscribers of Maharashtra state and reached its various findings from the viewpoints of urban, rural and tribal areas. The questionnaire based on socioeconomic parameters was prepared by using the Likert scale. The paper discusses, about the penetration of mobile phone technology in rural and especially in tribal society. The final part of the paper offers impact analysis for socioeconomic parameter of urban, rural and tribal society. The study recommends that particular emphasis should be given to mobile phone services for empowerment of rural and tribal society so that millions can be lifted out of poor socioeconomic status and their quality of life improved.
