The decennial Census is the chief source of a variety of statistical information on different characteristics of the people of India. The responsibility of conducting the decennial Census rests 1vith the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. A controvert. ry has exploded over the coverage of 'caste' in the 2011 census, after a long gap of seven decades as it 1vas first included in 19 31 by the British. |
