Abstract: | Mycotoxins are fungal metabolites, which are chemically diverse and occur in a wide variety of food and fodder. Fungal toxins are low molecular weight chemical compom,ds which are not detected by antigens, and hence produce no obvious symptoms. Mycotoxins are insidious poisons. Major mycotoxin-producing fm1gal genera, are Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium. The present study was undertaken with the main aim of comparing CT AB method and tratagene D A extraction kit method for extraction of D A from six different Fungal Strains. Commercial development and use of D A extraction kits has greatly simplified sample preparations. DNA was extracted from A spergillus parasiticus, A spergillus ochraceus, Fusarium culmorum, Fusarium verticillioides, Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium moniliforme using Stratagene DNA extraction kit and CTAB meiliod bot!, were found to be efficient and reproducible and also yielded D A of high molecular weight wit!, low levels of fragmentation and high quality. |
