Challenge or Opportunity? the Dynamics of Management Education in India

Abstract

Henry Mintzberg's famous title summarises the dilemma that we face in India today- MBAs or Managers? The answer to this question should necessarily come from the business schools themselves industry requires managers, job-ready from the word go. Over fifty years ago, when the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) were started in Calcutta and Ahmedbad, the distinction between MBAs and managers was unforeseen industry regarded MBAs1 from these schools as managers, ready to take on the work instantly.
