Abstract: Elastomers are flexible and elastic polymeric materials with low intermolecular forces. They are often blended with other materials in order to improve its mechanical, thermal, and other desirable properties. Their significant features such as recyclability, renewability, and cost effectiveness have found their application in food, medical, electronic, and other sectors. Several compatibilizing agents are used to improve the properties of elastomer-based blends. There are several studies that suggest the improved mechanical, thermal, and self-healable nature of elastomer-based blends. Elastomer-based blends have immense promises as it offers improved tensile strength, adhesion strength, morphological, thermal, stretchability percentage, tearing energy, rheological, viscoelastic, optical, self-healable properties, and elastic modulus of the blends. Hence, this chapter is designed to provide an overview of elastomer-based blends, compatibilizing agents, impact of nanofiller on elastomer-based blends, fabrication methods, processing and its characterization, properties and its application in medical, electronics, food, and other sectors. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
